Each and every one of us is born with a genetic blueprint. That blueprint tells our bodies how to respond to foreign invaders that cause sickness and disease. While some of us have “stronger” immunity than others, research now tells us that our lifestyle directly impacts our immune function. Meaning, you have the ability to boost your immune system through the foods you eat!! 1. Papaya Did you ever think that someone would tell you this delicious fruit can boost your immunity? Papaya’s rich orange color isn’t just something pretty to look at, it is actually attributed to its beta carotene content. Beta carotene is a powerful antioxidant that shows up as the color orange. This color ranges, so when you see a red, orange, or yellow fruit or vegetable it has beta carotene in it! Think sweet potatoes, red bell peppers, carrots, mango, and papaya. Even some green vegetables have beta carotene, but this is masked by the darker green color of chlorophyll. I love to eat papaya fresh. But when I can’t get it fresh, I’ll add papaya leaf extract to my smoothie or oatmeal.
